I'm New
Maybe you haven’t been to church before or maybe just not in a long time. Or maybe you have never been to an Anglican church and are not sure what to expect. Don’t worry – you are very welcome and it is easier than you might think!
What to expect
Please be assured of a very warm welcome – we shall be delighted to see you!
The service
You will be handed a booklet that contains all you will need for the service including the words of the hymns (songs) that we shall sing and the bible passages we shall hear read. There is no reserved seating among the congregation and so you can choose to sit wherever feels most comfortable in the chairs or pews for the congregation.
We gather and are welcomed by the priest. We sing, there is a prayer setting the theme of the day, we hear readings from the Bible and there is normally a sermon (a talk by the priest that usually relates the bible readings to what’s going on in the world now or in our lives). There is stillness and time for reflection.
You can join in as much as you like or just enjoy a time of peace. If you have children, there will normally be activities for them.
We then celebrate the Eucharist, or Holy Communion, where we share bread and wine as Jesus and his disciples did at their last supper. All are welcome to come forward to receive bread and wine, but you do not have to – you might want to come forward and ask for a blessing, or simply stay in your seat.
After the service there’s coffee and wine – an opportunity to spend time together and to get to know people in a relaxed setting.
Please be assured of a very warm welcome – we shall be delighted to see you!
