Holy Trinity's Green Group are currently pursuing a number of initiatives, one of which is the launch of a PLOGGING group. Keith Paterson explains here what it is about and how you can get involved
Plogging in a nutshell
o Plogging is a great way to exercise and at the same time pick-up rubbish, as well as do a little good for the world’s ecology.
o Its roots are in Sweden: “plocka upp” is the Swedish term for picking up. Stockholm fielded the first plogging event in 2016 and now it has spread to over one hundred countries with at least three million practitioners.
o It's easy to do either individually or with others or even with a dog!
o It can be a lot of fun especially in a group: it makes you ‘feel good’ and benefits the local community.
o Equipment-wise only a few essentials are needed: plastic bags, disposable or washable gloves and hand sanitiser is desirable but optional. An additional tool to pick-up rubbish without touching is used by some people.
o Dress is typical outdoor gear.
How you can get involved
We are pleased to announce these two events to launch our newly created Holy Trinity Plogging Group.
1) Place Garibaldi, Wednesday 11 June at 1900
The Nice Plogging Association are inviting us to meet in Place Garibaldi to celebrate their support for UNOC3 The United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 which is now taking place in Nice. Mathieu Perino, Porte Parole de Nice Plogging, has sent us a warm welcome inviting us to be present and meet with other Nice plogging groups. The meeting point is the centrally placed Garibaldi statue.
2) Holy Trinity Church Entrance, Wednesday 18 June at 19h00
This will be our first solo plogging event, lasting one hour and focusing on the immediate neighbourhood of the Church between the park (Place Alziary de Malaussena) and the coast (Plage Lido et Plage Ruhl). We warmly invite anyone to join us in making this a very positive experience, which will be enjoyable and fun along with offering the bonus of doing something good for the city and for the planet.
If you are attending Holy Trinity Church on a Sunday and would like to chat about any aspect of our Plogging then please feel free to have a word with me, Keith Paterson.
