Holy Trinity Plogging Group

PLOGGING consists of walking or slow running outdoors while collecting waste that then gets recycled. It comes from the Swedish term ‘Plocka upp’ meaning to pick up and ‘Jogging’. Erik Ahlström launched Plogging in Stockholm in 2016 as a great way to collect waste while exercising. There are now two million ploggers in a hundred countries who actively remove waste, often in an area where they may routinely walk or run, so as to create a cleaner, better environment. Holy Trinity launched its own Plogging Group in June 2025 as one of our initiatives to make our church more eco-focused.

Why plog?

Plogging strengthens our church’s community links with its neighbourhood -and you’ll go home afterwards feeling that you’ve contributed to the greater good.

Who can plog?

Everyone is welcome to join in. You’ll find a happy, congenial plogging group which normally meets each week for sixty minutes of camaraderie, fun and physical exercise.

How do we plog?

This depends on what individuals prefer and the work to be done. Either the whole group plogs together or in pairs or individuals can also plog on their own.

What equipment is needed?

Basic equipment and safety guidelines are minimal and we will provide you with Gloves, a Reused Plastic Bottle (for cigarette butts). â€‹Dress how you like but you’ll need appropriate footwear (trainers, walking shoes, etc).

Where do we plog?

Our notional catchment zone borders on the Church and extends from Place Alziary de Malaussena to the Lido and Ruhl beaches including all the streets between.

How do we stay safe?

Our golden rule is safety first: we don’t pick-up dangerous or large unwieldy objects and we avoid large pieces of broken glass or anything hazardous. Plogging in the urban and Mediterranean beach zone adjacent to Holy Trinity must always be undertaken safely, respecting basic pedestrian, beach and traffic rules as well as weather and marine warnings.

We are members of NicePlogging, which is coordinated by Mathieu Perino who provides much appreciated support and oversees all plogging operations in Nice.
